The Art of Philanthropy

I have always been passionate about things in life-education for the poor and promoting local Indonesia artists. Being involved in numerous social and charitable activities for some time, I have seen how Indonesia came from being an education leader in this region, to the current dire situation it is in today. We are now sadly lagging in terms of our children’s literacy levels and proficiency in basic subjects compared to our more illustrious and educated neighbors such as Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
On the other hand, Indonesia has been blessed with a richness of culture and abundance of wealth in artistic talent. My love for local paintings began very early on in life and stems from the portrayal of life, culture, color and scenery so vividly captured on canvas by our talented artists who are quickly becoming appreciated on the world stage.
I can think of no better way of bringing my two interests together than to host a special event for other like-minded, prominent individuals, such as yourself. The “Art of philanthropy” combines our love for as well as our concern for social issues such as education, and allows us to express our passion in a beautiful, yet very practical manner. The highlight of the evening will be a charity auction hosted by Christie’s Auction House, with pieces from exclusive galleries across Indonesia and even Singapore. I have also included one of my favorite pieces from renowned artists, Walasse Thing to be auctioned off as part of my contribution to the cause. All proceeds will go towards the improvement of education in Indonesia through the Putera Sampoerna Foundation.
I thank you for being part of this simple, elegant yet meaningful occasion and trust that you will actively participate in supporting both our local artists as well as the improvement of education-all for the betterment of our country and the future of this nation.
